Your Spring 2018 Shopping List

WINTER 2018
By Rebecca Carhart for Modern Muse

It may still be winter, but the spring/summer 2018 shows were so good that they've already got us thinking about our wardrobes for next season. Thankfully, you don't need to give your closet a complete overhaul to stay on trend.

Instead, you can give your wardrobe a stylish refresh by shopping several key pieces. Here, we highlight the fashions that are likely to be 2018's next big thing. If you shop five items next spring, make it these.

1. Anoraks

Come spring you'll actually be hoping for rain, thanks to the season's hottest topper: the anorak. The waterproof jackets are so stylish that you'll want to throw one on even if the sun is shining. Whether you're layering it over separates to complete your look or even styling it as a dress like Public School did, the sporty raincoat is definitely the season's must-have outerwear piece.

2. Fanny Packs

You may have never seen this coming, but the fanny pack is actually cool again. In fact, it was the go-to handbag silhouette at practically every spring 2018 show including Marc Jacobs. The comeback of the hands-free bag may be due to the fact that it's as versatile as it is kitschy. Wear it traditionally around the waist or, for a sleek modern take, carry it as a shoulder bag or a cross-body.

3. Pencil Skirts

Flowing pleated midi skirts may have taken center stage in recent seasons, but this coming spring is all about the fitted pencil skirt. The classic workwear staple allows you to show off your figure as it hugs your curves in all the right places, while still leaving you looking poised and sophisticated. When shopping for your perfect option, take a cue from Prada, who gave the once-basic piece a fashion-forward upgrade with cool prints and flirty embellishments.

4. Bucket Hats

If you thought the '90s resurgence stopped at fanny packs, you're wrong. Bucket hats are another retro accessory that will be having a cool moment in 2018 when the weather begins to warm up. For a coordinated look, match your hat with another piece of your wardrobe like Rosie Assoulin did.

5. Bra Tops

Crop tops may be a perennial favorite, but designers want you to show even more skin in 2018 with itty-bitty bra tops. While plenty of brands lean towards actual bras, stick with bralettes that offer extra coverage for a more wearable look. Style it with a pair of high-waisted trousers, as seen at Fenty Puma by Rihanna, for a sexy date-night ensemble.
