This Color Was All Over the Fall Runways

SPRING 2018
By Kelsey Mulvey for Modern Muse

Move over, millennial pink — there's a new shade in town. While the light, somewhat salmon hue has been the "it color" for years, the recent fall 2018 collections are suggesting a, shall we say, brighter future.

From fashion fixtures like Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung to insider favorites such as Ulla Johnson, everyone who's anyone showed a color we can only describe as "power pink." Shockingly bright, yet reimagined in cutting-edge silhouettes, power pink is something you're more likely to see on your boss than a Barbie doll.

Don't want to wait until fall to embrace this trend? Thanks to the stylish finds below, you don't have to:

Sweet Sweater

Sweater weather might be almost over, but we're not out of the woods just yet. Ted Baker's pink pick ($136) makes a case for buying one last sweater before the mercury rises. The sweet scalloping along on the sleeves and hemline is unlike any pullover you currently have in your closet, plus you'll be able to wear the cheery hue for years to come. Even better? It's office-friendly — throw on some work trousers and your favorite pair of pumps, and you'll be ready to take on the boardroom.

Stand-Out Shoe

Stuart Weitzman's Pureaok Booties ($535) aren't only made for walking. From the smooth Nappa leather to the striking 3.75-inch heel, they're the kind of shoes that command attention. Let your booties do all the talking by pairing them with neutrals, like a gray sweater dress. And if you want to up the style ante, experiment with fabrics — these booties will be rocker ready with some black patent leather pants.

Maximalist Moto

Sies Marjan's cropped moto jacket ($1,795) from Barneys should come with a warning label that reads, "Not suitable for sartorial wallflowers." Between its girly color palette and glitzy finish, it's made to stand out. Since you're already making a statement with your jacket, why hold back on the rest of your outfit? Add brights, patterns, and fun textiles to the mix. This jacket is all about having fun with your look, so now's your time to shine.

Pink to Perfection Purse

Is a trend even worth investing in if it doesn't receive Gucci's seal of approval? Ever since Alessandro Michele took the helm of the Italian brand in 2015, Gucci has become the brand to watch for emerging trends. Lo and behold, it's embracing power pink with this embellished bag. Available at Nordstrom for nearly $3,000, it's by no means cheap, but if pink's your signature color, it'll become your go-to purse in a snap.

Sensual Skirt

In case you didn't get the memo, pink can be sexy — just look at this skirt from Zara ($29.90). A close cousin of the ubiquitous pencil skirt, this one boasts a ruched seam and subtle slit, which leaves just enough to the imagination. The shimmery jacquard, on the other hand, makes it the perfect pick for date night. Complete the look with a chunky sweater, crop top, or the brand's matching shirt.

Easy Earrings

If your wardrobe isn't already chock-full of brights, you may find it difficult to integrate them into your closet. Start off slow with these Lizzie Fortunato earrings ($160), available at Saks Fifth Avenue. Made of fuchsia silk cord and mother-of-pearl, these earrings will make a statement, but aren't as daring as, say, a hot pink moto jacket. Pair them with jeans and a T-shirt during the day and a tailored jumpsuit come evening.
