The Waste Management Phoenix Open — heralded the Greatest Show on the Grass — kicked off this week and if last year's record-breaking, 655,000-attendance number was any indication, you can expect large enthusiastic crowds this year. The best part is, you don't have to be a golf pro or fanatic to enjoy the festivities. The event draws in a diverse range of spectators every year, and — just like the Kentucky Derby or Super Bowl — it doubles as an opportunity to show off your style. To help round out your #OOTD, we're showcasing the shoes and bags that are not only fashion-forward and desert-approved, but also abide by the Phoenix Open's strict regulations.
Elegant Pointed Loafer
Anyone who prioritizes comfort over vanity will love that they get both out of Taryn Rose's Faye Pointy Toe Loafer ($140) from Nordstrom. This suede shoe comes in black, gray and soft beige, and features an elegant design via a feminine, pointed apron toe and low vamp. Plus, it's outfitted with an ultra-cushy foot bed so you can be on your feet or walking for hours with zero pain.
Playful Desert Wedge
What better place to rock cactus-inspired footwear than in the Sonoran Desert? True to brand, Kate Spade's Dallas Cactus Platform Wedge Sandals ($278) are festive, playful, and colorful. (In fact, they're basically begging for a little foot-selfie action.) They're constructed from 100% leather, have a 4.25-inch heel, and the cactus design is appliqué. You can shop them at Neiman Marcus, Kate Spade, and Nordstrom.
Keep it casual, chic and comfortable with a pair of GREATS sneakers in the trendiest color of all: Millennial Pink. The Royale Perforated Low-Top Sneaker ($179), available at Nordstrom, is handmade from Italian leather and features a low-top silhouette. Because it's lined with a cushy, soft, tanned-calfskin leather, you can even go sock-less. If you're not a fan of pink, try a pair in gray, black, blue or white.
Ultra-Tiny Shoulder Bag
Don't be caught by surprise: the Phoenix Open has strict regulations regarding what purses and bags are allowed into the grounds. All opaque handheld purses must be smaller than 6-inch x 6-inch x 6-inch (camera cases, backpacks, fanny packs, and totes are prohibited). Finding a small enough purse takes some time, but we've done the work for you. One of our favorite options is Gucci's Supermini GG Marmont 2.0 Matelassé Leather Shoulder Bag ($890), an Italian purse with gold hardware and the '70s-era Double G logo on quilted leather, available at Nordstrom.
Mini Key Pouch
Bottega Veneta's Intrecciato Zip-Top Key Pouch ($400), sold at Neiman Marcus and Bottega Veneta, is the most compact option. It features the brand's signature intrecciato woven design — crafted from an inky black lambskin — as well as striking palladium brass hardware. In addition to the zip-top pouch, it has a front pocket with snap enclosure. It's the perfect size for your necessities, including ID, key, cash, phone, and lipstick.
