8 Beach Day Essentials

SPRING 2018
By Elana Lyn Gross for Modern Muse

Warmer weather means it's time for lazy days spent relaxing on the beach and basking in the sunshine. But the difference between a good beach day and a great one is having the right essentials on hand. We've gathered all the things you'll need so you can spend the entire day sunbathing, swimming, and hanging with your besties without having to head home for something you forgot.

A Cute Beach Bag

Start with a tropical-printed beach bag. Ban.do's Got Your Back Paradiso Drawstring Backpack, available at Bloomingdale's, can be cleaned easily if it gets sandy (real talk: it will). Plus, it's big enough to fit everything you need for your seaside sojourn, without cramping your style.

A Chic Sun Hat

If you value your complexion, you can't hit the sand without a hat — which gives you the perfect excuse to invest in yet another elegant accessory. The Kate Spade New York Long Brim Fedora, available at Bloomingdale's, is not only chic and summery but the straw caning is super breathable so you'll be less likely to sweat.

An SPF Lip Balm

You've also got to protect your pout. Hydrate your lips and keep them from getting sunburned with the Burt's Bees All-Weather Lip Balm available from Ulta. Infused with nourishing oils, butters, beeswax, and fruit extracts, it'll help ward off the salt, sand, and sun so your lips are always kissable.

A Chilled Water Bottle

No one likes to drink warm water on a hot day, so it's a good thing that the S'well Elia Water Bottle, available at Macy's, keeps drinks chilly for up to 24 hours. For those who like their H20 extra cold, the bottle's wide mouth means you can fit ice cubes inside. Even better: S'well donates a portion of sale proceeds to UNICEF to help provide clean drinking water to children around the globe.

Water-Resistant Sunscreen

Nothing puts a dampener on a day like a painful sunburn, so be sure to protect your skin from UV rays with a sunscreen that's high in SPF. Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen, available at Sephora, safeguards your skin from photoaging and dehydration and can be used on your face or body. The sunscreen is oil-free, which helps prevent those nasty post-beach breakouts, and it's also water-resistant, so you can splash around in the ocean without having to reapply right away.

A Tasty Snack

You'll be everyone's BFF if you bring along a shareable snack like Purely Elizabeth. Granola available at Target. Most people will be able to take a handful or two without having to worry about their dietary needs because it's gluten-free, vegan, and doesn't have refined sugar. And let's be real: The day will be much more enjoyable if your crew isn't hangry!

Stylish Sunglasses

It's hard not to look cool in a pair of aviators. Lilly Pulitzer adds a feminine touch to the classic style by putting its signature colorful pattern on the Lexy Polarized Aviator Sunglasses available at Nordstrom. Not only do these sunglasses prevent glare and have 100% UV protection, but their mirrored lenses make them perfect for under-the-radar people watching.

A Lightweight Towel

No one likes to lug around an enormous beach towel in their bag. Instead, dry off with a lightweight, fast-drying Turkish towel like this one from Cathy's Concepts, available at Nordstrom. The nautical stripe pattern is on-point for the seaside, while the monogram adds a personalized touch.
