Flowers aren't the only thing popping up this time of year. Noses around the globe have been working on new fragrances to launch this spring, and those perfumes have finally made their beauty-counter debuts. This comes just in time for the warmer months and coincides with a very appropriate holiday: Mother's Day. A luxury spring fragrance is the perfect gift for the mom in your life, either by itself or paired with a fresh bouquet of buds, a bottle of wine, or a box of gourmet chocolates. Here are some of our favorites.
Chloé's Nomade — formulated by perfumer Quentin Bisch — is an elegant, fresh, and delicate blend of soft freesia, mirabelle plum, and velvety oak moss. The chypre, available at Macy's, is undeniably feminine, but in a noble and complex way rather than being overtly girlish. It smells as if you're standing on a balcony dripping with sun-warmed freesia in the middle of a balmy countryside. As you might have guessed from the name, Bisch was inspired by this idea of freedom and confidence.
Miu Miu L'Eau Rosée
Even lighter yet is Miu Miu L'Eau Rosée, a barely-there fragrance that fully embraces the trend of wearing an airy essence versus a thick cloud of scent. It's a youthful and lively EDT that combines dewy lily of the valley with creamy musk and a pinch of blackcurrant to brighten. You can find it at Sephora.
Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Garden
If you're seeking a creamier, gourmand-leaning fragrance to gift Mom, you'll find a winner in Dolce & Gabbana's heralded Dolce Garden. The scent, available at Sephora, conjures visions of a breezy tropical oasis, but not in a clichéd "sunscreen and citrus" kind of way. Instead, it infuses sweet frangipani blossoms and ylang-ylang in a bowl of coconut essence, almond milk, splash of vanilla, and a dash of orange zest.
Aerin Hibiscus Palm
For another take on tropical, consider Aerin's Hibiscus Palm, which you can find at Nordstrom. It's a bit greener and less sweet than Dolce Garden and is ideal for moms who prefer wearing a bright and creamy scent. Hibiscus Palm has a refined complexity to it that has people calling it one of the brand's best launches yet. It's a marriage of striking florals — including frangipani, lotus, and hibiscus — tempered with coconut milk, vanilla, musk, and earthy palm leaf.
Guerlain Mon Guerlain EDP Florale
Guerlain's newest EDP, Guerlain Mon Guerlain EDP Florale, was formulated by the brand's master perfumer, Thierry Wasser, whose beguiling muse was Angelina Jolie. It is undeniably — but thoughtfully — floral, braiding together jasmine sambac, iris, peony, neroli, ylang-ylang, and earthy lavender. Vanilla adds a touch of creaminess while lime brightens ever-so-slightly. Wasser's goal was to capture the essence of flowers opening up in the morning dew. Shop for it at Neiman Marcus.
Proenza Schouler Arizona
Fashion house Proenza Schouler made big moves this year by releasing its very first EDP, Proenza Schouler Arizona. The fragrance was inspired by the travel adventures of the brand's designers, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who wanted to combine contrasting elements in one scent. It features white cactus flower — which has never been used in a perfume before — with creamy orris and a striking blend of floral accord. It smells like the desert in the spring, a magical time of year where everything's flowering, the cactuses are plump, and the sun makes everything feel warm and cozy. Shop for it at Saks Fifth Avenue.
