While florals, summer dresses, and skin-bearing designs are things we have grown to expect during the spring/summer runway shows, this season's collections gave us one very unexpected trend that we can't wait to try when the weather warms up: sparkles.
Whether it was through accessories or clothing, top designers made sure their models shimmered and shone as they graced the catwalks of New York Fashion Week. Here we break down three runway-approved ways you can add a bit of sparkle to your own look.
Try An Accessory
Usually known for minimalist, classic silhouettes and clean lines, Victoria Beckham surprised us all when she sent dazzling green heels down her spring/summer 2018 runway. Glittery pumps allow you to test the waters and add a hint of sparkle without overpowering your look. Avoid looking too much like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, by opting for a pair in green or blue to balance out the girly glitter.
Make It the Focal Point
Coach 1941's creative director, Stuart Vevers, was so convinced that sparkles would be the season's biggest trend that he sent his glistening fashions down a massive blue glitter runway for his show. Take his cue and let a sequined skirt be the central focus of your ensemble. Allow the glimmer to really pop by pairing the bottom with a simple top in a complementary hue. A leather jacket will ground the shimmering skirt, while chunky boots will up the cool factor.
Go Big or Go Home

Monse's spring/summer 2018 show may have been heavily influenced by collegiate American sportswear but that didn't stop the brand's designers from adding sparkles wherever they could. Case in point? This show-stopping sequined fringe dress that closed the show. While a glittering gown may not be part of your everyday attire, it's perfect for a big night out or black-tie affair. Since the dress is eye-catching enough on its own, be sure to accessorize it with simple, strappy heels and minimal jewels.
